The Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild has five classes of permanent membership ACTIVE, SUPPORT, HONORARY, PATRON, SIGNATURE and TEMPORARY.
You may become a temporary member at any time by printing out and mailing in an application form with dues calculated on a prorated scale. Temporary members who wish to become active members must go through the normal application and jurying process.
If you would like an application for membership in SAWG, or a membership renewal form if you're a current member, click here.
Applications for Active Membership in the Guild are accepted once a year, in March. For inquiries, email Peg Franken. Persons wishing to apply for active membership must submit three matted paintings to a jury of five guild members. If accepted as an active member, membership becomes effective immediately.

SAWG JURY DATE CHANGE
The SAWG Jury date has been changed to SATURDAY, APRIL 26, 2008. The location will still be the same - at the Ward 6 Office, 3202 E. First Street; the drop-off time remains the same - 8:00 - 9:00 AM. The revised date for applying for this jury is Tuesday, April 15th.
This change is due to the possibility of a constitutional change in Active 1 and Active 2 membership categories, which will be voted on by the general membership at our April 8th meeting. If the membership proposal vote passes all Active 2 members will become Juried Members under the new rules and Active 1 members will become Members.
We would like to extend the deadline for juring so that any Active 1 member will have an opportunity to participate in the jury in order to attempt to obtain Active 2 status prior to the change to Juried Member. If an Active 1 member chooses not to jury, they may as a Member submit to any board designated juried show next year (or any time thereafter); if their entry is accepted into the show, they would then become a Juried Member.
If you have any questions, you may contact Peg Franken, Membership Chair at pegfranken@cox.net.
Active Members
Those members with dues paid current, and whose paintings have been passed on by a SAWG jury. Active members are eligible to vote and to enter SAWG sponsored shows, and to hold office. There are two levels of active membership, Active 1 and Active 2. They are expected to devote 12 hours per year to Guild committee work or provide support in some other way.
Active SAWG members: You may have a webpage on this website to show up to 5 images of you and/or your work plus a short bio or artist statement. This is an easy, low-cost marketing tool that allows others (galleries, potential buyers of your work) to see a sampling of your art. One member gallery participant has their work featured on SAWG's home page each month, with a link to their web page. There is a one-time fee of $10 which goes to SAWG to help defray the costs of the website updates.
Check out the Member's Gallery to see what other members are putting on their pages, and if you want to apply, click the link below to find out what to send the web mistress for posting.
Support Members
These are members who are not painters, but who want to support the Guild and its activities. They are expected to devote 12 hours per year to Guild committee work or provide support in other areas. They may attend meetings but may not vote or hold office.Honorary Members
Honorary members shall be invited to membership by the President subject to Board approval. These persons have either made an exceptional contribution to SAWG and/or the community in the advancement of watercolor, or be a watercolorist of outstanding talent and recognition. They pay no dues, initiation fee or assessments. Past Presidents of the Guild are automatically invited to become honorary members at the conclusion of their term of office. They are expected to donate 12 hours per year to Guild work or provide other support.Patron Members
These members are invited to membership by the President subject to Board approval. They need not be watercolorists, but should have an active interest in the arts and in furthering the cultural and educational objectives of SAWG. They shall have made a significant contribution (usually financial) to the Guild. They pay no dues, initiation fee or assessments.Signature Members
This category of membership is limited to active members whose work has been accepted in at least five shows designated by the Board as signature shows. If you would like to know which shows are signature shows, and get a downloadable form to keep track of your show acceptances, click here. Signature members are entitled to add the initials S.A.W.G. following their signature on their paintings. They are expected to give 12 hours per year to Guild work.Signature Status Documentation Form
Temporary Members
This category of membership is for those who would like to join the Guild immediately in order to take advantage of paint-outs, workshops, volunteer activities etc. and do not want to wait until membership jurying in the spring. Temporary memberships are valid from the payment of dues until the following May 1. Temporary members are expected to participate in the Membership jurying held each spring. Temporary members who choose not to participate in the jurying may convert their membership to Support membership. You do not have to be a member to participate in the membership jurying, so prospective members may wish to save money and wait until the spring jurying to join, especially if they are considering joining within a few months of the jurying (late Marchearly April). Temporary members may not enter SAWG shows, hang paintings in the gallery, or vote. They are expected to volunteer to help with SAWG activities.
