Sarafina
Luz
Watercolorist
Watercolor is the
favorite medium of this award-winning artist. Vivid floral, city, desert
and water landscapes come to life through the spirited use of color
and design.
Enjoying the natural
beauty and sights of Tucson has been a tremendous source of inspiration
over the past several years. A downtown building, garden flower or luscious
cactus bloom often form the centerpiece for a composition reflecting
Sarafina's deep love of nature. Water images depict treasures discovered
on trips to the sea and provide a wonderful contrast to her desert work.
Sarafina's art is always signed with her signature, "Fina,"
in recognition of her Italian heritage.
Born and raised
near Boston, Sarafina holds a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Health
Administration. Having pursued art as an adjunct to her busy life as
a wife, mother, student and working woman, she re-located to Tucson
in 1994 from Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Since "retiring", painting
has become a full-time and passionate effort.
Sarafina's artwork
has been shown at the Ironwood Gallery at the Arizona-Sonora Desert
Museum, Tohono-Chul Gallery, The Artery and Paloma Art Gallery, all
located in Arizona. She has also exhibited her award-winning paintings
at various juried exhibits including the St. Philips in the Hills Art
Fair, Pima County Fine Arts Fair and the Oro Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Volunteerism has
played a major role in Sarafina's life as well. She has contributed
original works of art as silent auction items to benefit the Alzheimer's
Foundation, the Arthritis Foundation of Southern Arizona, Casa de los
Ninos, a local children's crisis center, and SACASA, the Southern Arizona
Center Against Sexual Assault. In addition, she was involved in painting
a mural in the children's therapy room at Las Familias, a child abuse
treatment center in Tucson.
Sarafina is a juried
member of the Southwest League of Fine Arts, the Southern Arizona Watercolor
Guild and the Southern Arizona Scribes.
